We collect only the personal data we need to run your classes, keep sessions safe and get paid; we never sell it. This policy explains what we collect, why, how long we keep it (including session recordings) and how you control it. It follows the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act), the DPDP Rules, 2025 and the IT Act, 2000.
1. Who is responsible for your data
MakRew ("MakRew"), Bengaluru, is the Data Fiduciary for personal data processed through makrew.live. For any privacy question or request, contact our Grievance Officer, [Grievance Officer Name], at admin@makrew.live.

We do not ask for Aadhaar, PAN or other government IDs from learners, except a GSTIN if you want a GST invoice.
3. Why we use it
- To create and run your account, match you with a teacher and schedule sessions.
- To deliver live sessions, share recordings and materials, and track your progress.
- To take payments, issue invoices and process refunds.
- To keep classes safe: verifying parents for under-18s, reviewing reported incidents, preventing fraud and misuse.
- To send service messages: booking confirmations, reminders, changes, receipts (by email, SMS or WhatsApp).
- To improve teaching quality and the platform, using aggregated or de-identified data where possible.
- To send offers and newsletters, only if you opt in. You can opt out at any time.
- To meet legal duties (tax, accounting, responding to lawful requests).
We process data on the basis of your consent, given when you sign up, book or tick a specific box, and for legitimate uses the DPDP Act allows, such as complying with law. We do not track or behaviourally profile children, and we do not show them targeted ads.
4. Session recordings
- What is recorded: when MakRew switches session recording on, Google Meet records each live session (video and audio) by itself, and a recording notice shows in the room for everyone. The recording is saved to MakRew's Google Workspace account and shown only through your MakRew dashboard. When safety checks are on, Google Meet also transcribes what is said, and MakRew automatically checks the transcript for phone numbers, social media handles, email addresses, links and abusive language, so that our safety team can review anything that could put a learner at risk or move contact off MakRew. Transcripts are seen only by authorised MakRew staff and are deleted with the recordings.
- Why: so you can revise; so we can check quality; and so we can investigate a safety or conduct complaint.
- Who can see them: you (and your parent/guardian, if you are under 18), your teacher, and a small number of authorised MakRew quality and safety staff. You can watch your recordings in Session Recordings and download them for your own learning. Teachers can watch recordings of their classes but cannot download them.
- How long: recordings stay available in your dashboard for 30 days after the session (the period is shown in Session Recordings and at checkout), then are deleted, unless they are needed for an open complaint or legal matter.
- Opting out: you can ask us to switch off recording for your sessions by writing to info@makrew.live. For under-18 learners, recording stays on by default for safeguarding, unless a parent asks otherwise and a parent is present in every session.
- No marketing use: we never use recordings in advertising or publicity without your separate written consent (and a parent's consent for minors).
- Your agreement: when session recording is on, we ask you to agree to it when you buy a plan or book a first session, and we keep a record of that agreement. A parent or guardian agrees for a learner under 18. Teachers agree to it in the Teacher Terms.
5. Who we share it with
We share only what each party needs:
- Your teacher: name, first-name display, age group, goals, level, schedule, readiness notes, assignments. Teachers never see your payment details, and your full contact details are not shared unless needed for the class.
- Service providers (Data Processors): cloud hosting, video conferencing, payment gateway, email/SMS/WhatsApp messaging, analytics and customer support tools. They are bound by contracts to use the data only for our instructions and to keep it secure.
- Authorities: when required by law, court order or to protect someone's safety.
- Business transfer: if MakRew is merged or sold, your data may move to the new owner under the same protections, and we will tell you.
Some providers may store data outside India. We transfer data abroad only as permitted under the DPDP Act and with appropriate safeguards. If you allow analytics or session replay, usage data is processed by Google LLC (Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager) and Microsoft Corporation (Microsoft Clarity), mainly in the United States. Both act as our service providers under their data processing terms, and Google is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. To show prices in your currency and apply the right privacy rules, your IP address is also checked once by ipapi.co to find your country.
6. How long we keep it

After these periods we delete or anonymise the data.
7. Your rights
Under the DPDP Act you can:
- Get a summary of the personal data we hold about you and who we've shared it with.
- Correct, complete or update it.
- Erase it, where we no longer need it for the purpose or by law.
- Withdraw consent at any time, as easily as you gave it. This won't affect processing already done, but we may be unable to continue classes.
- Nominate someone to exercise your rights if you die or become incapable.
- Raise a grievance with us, and if unresolved, with the Data Protection Board of India.
To use any right, go to Dashboard → Settings → Privacy or email admin@makrew.live. We respond within 30 days, usually sooner.
8. Children's data
For learners under 18, we collect data only after verifiable consent from a parent or lawful guardian, as described in the Child Safety & Parental Consent Policy. Parents can see their child's records, recordings and messages, and can withdraw consent at any time.
9. Security
We use encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), encrypted storage for recordings, role-based access for staff, two-step verification for admin accounts, and activity logs. If a personal data breach affects you, we will inform you and the Data Protection Board as the law requires. No system is completely secure, so please use a strong, unique password.
10. Cookies and analytics
We use essential cookies and browser storage to run the site. Analytics (Google Analytics 4 through Google Tag Manager) and session replay (Microsoft Clarity) run only as described in the Cookie Policy: with your consent in India, the EU/EEA, the UK, Switzerland, Singapore and most other countries, and with notice and an easy opt-out in the United States and Australia, where we also honour the Global Privacy Control signal. We never use them for advertising, never sell or share your data for cross-context advertising, and never run them inside learner, teacher or admin accounts. You can change your choice at any time from Cookie settings in the site footer.
11. Changes
We will post updates here with a new effective date and email you about significant changes before they apply.
