Teacher FAQ

Answers for MakRew teachers, and for anyone thinking of teaching with us. Anything else: career@makrew.live.

Joining MakRew

How do I apply to teach? Fill in the Teach@MakRew form. Your application goes through six steps:

  1. Apply: we receive your form.
  2. Documents: we check your certificates and ID.
  3. Screening interview.
  4. Demo class, scored by our team.
  5. Background check: references and verification.
  6. Onboarding: you accept the offer and set up your teacher account.

How is my rate set? You have a rate for a learner's first 1:1 session, one for session plan classes and, if you teach groups, one for group classes, all in one currency. They're in your offer letter: discussed and agreed at onboarding and set by MakRew. Your dashboard Home shows the ones that apply to you.

Your profile

When does my profile go live? Learners can see and book you once four steps are done; your Home shows the checklist:

  • availability saved for at least one week;
  • a profile photo;
  • a write-up of at least 100 characters;
  • an intro video approved by MakRew.

How do I add my intro video? Upload it in Profile ▸ Intro video (MP4 works best; WebM and MOV too; up to 200 MB). MakRew reviews every new video before it appears. If we decline it, you'll see why and can upload another. Your current approved video stays live meanwhile.

Availability

How do I set my availability? In My Schedule ▸ Availability, tick the hours you can teach, one week at a time: this week and the next 8. Weeks run Monday to Sunday. A week you haven't changed uses your usual times. Times are on the hour, shown in your time zone.

Can I change it at short notice? Times less than 12 hours away are locked. Removing a time only stops new bookings; a class already booked there stays booked, and you're offered Propose a new time or Keep.

What about MakRew holidays? No teacher has slots on a holiday. To teach that day, open slots in that week on your dashboard's Scheduling tab.

Your classes

How do I start a class? Press Start class (or Join session in the top ribbon on your dashboard), from 10 minutes before the start. Each class has its own Google Meet room, which MakRew closes 70 minutes after the start.

How do learners book me? They book your free slots at least 12 hours ahead and up to 60 days ahead, one class a day with you at most. You're told about every booking, move and cancellation in the bell on your dashboard and by email.

How do I add notes and material?

  • Notes: in Student Progress ▸ Add a class note, pick the class by date and time. The learner sees the note in their Progress Tracker.
  • Material: share files in Session Material.

Are my classes recorded? Yes. Each class is recorded, and you can watch the recordings of your classes in Session Recordings for 30 days. Learners can also download their own; teachers can watch but not download.

Moving and cancelling

How do I move a class?

  • Propose a new time on the class, at least 12 hours before it.
  • The learner accepts or declines. If they don't answer, the request expires 4 hours before the earlier of the two times, and the class is cancelled with the session back in their plan.
  • Your first 2 change requests for the same class go straight to the learner; from the 3rd, MakRew approves first.

How do I cancel a class? Untick it in that week's availability, or use Can't teach. The learner keeps the session and picks a new time. For every 2 classes a teacher cancels in a learner's plan, the learner gets 1 bonus session, for which the teacher isn't paid.

What if I have an emergency inside 12 hours? Tick Emergency on the class, then move or cancel it. Each plan allows one emergency change from you for every 12 sessions; learners have their own. An emergency new time must be at least 2 hours away. Can't teach also uses this allowance.

No-shows and feedback

What if a learner doesn't join? From 10 minutes after the start, a Learner no-show button appears under Start class, and in Recent classes on Home for 48 hours. Upload a screenshot of the empty class window on Google Meet, add a note if you like, and submit it for MakRew to review. MakRew also checks Google Meet's attendance after each class: if you were in the room 15 minutes or more and the learner never joined, it counts as a learner no-show without a report. A learner no-show counts as a used session, and the class counts in your payout.

What if a learner reports me as a no-show? MakRew reviews it. MakRew also raises one itself when Google Meet shows the learner joined and you didn't. If confirmed, the session goes back to the learner's plan with 1 bonus session. It shows in No-shows this month on your Home and isn't paid.

Why am I asked "Did this class happen?" When MakRew can't check a class on Google Meet (for example, it was held on a pasted link), we ask you and the learner. If you both say yes, it counts; if either of you says no, MakRew decides.

What's the feedback pop-up? After each class, we ask you to rate the learner from 1 to 10 and add a comment.

Payouts and bonus sessions

How am I paid? For completed classes, each at the rate for its type (first 1:1 session, session plan or group class), monthly. A class counts as completed once MakRew has checked that it took place: Google Meet shows you and the learner together for 40 minutes or more, or you were in the room 15 minutes or more and the learner never joined (a learner no-show). If Meet can't tell, you and the learner are asked whether it happened; if you disagree, or don't answer within 48 hours, MakRew decides. Until then it shows as being checked and is in your expected payout, not your payout so far. A group class counts once per class: Yes, once per class, when at least one learner attended. Your Home shows classes completed this month and your expected payout. The full rules are in the Teacher Payout Policy.

What are bonus sessions? Extra sessions MakRew gives a learner after teacher cancellations or a confirmed teacher no-show. You teach them like any class, but they aren't paid; Bonus sessions on your Home counts them.

Emails

Which emails will I get?

  • One for every booking, move or cancellation by a learner or MakRew.
  • Class reminders 24 hours and 1 hour before (one per group class).
  • If MakRew switches it on, a daily agenda of tomorrow's classes.

You can turn reminders and the agenda off in Settings & notifications.
